Ideally, the opportunity to live a full, rewarding life would be universal. Yet in our global society, we find that whole groups of people lack access even to life’s necessities, like clean water and basic health care. How do such inequities come to be? How do distributions of power perpetuate them, shaping our experiences and even our consciousness? How have people fought for rights through both social and intellectual movements, and what can be done today to create more opportunities for all people to live full, self-determined lives? Challenging Inequity asks students to think critically and creatively about issues of power, discrimination, equality, and justice, equipping them to create meaningful opportunities for others, and themselves.
