BIO:
Quanisha Charles (she/her/hers), Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of English and First-Gen Faculty Mentor at North Central College. Her specialization is in English Composition and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). She has earned certificates in Business English and Teaching English as a Foreign Language, along with a State License in English for Speakers of Other Languages. Dr. Charles’ research interests focus on ways in which race constructs English language teaching identity and pedagogy, narratives of Black teachers of English, specifically native speakers, around the world. Dr. Charles has experience teaching English internationally in Asian countries, and much expertise working with multilingual populations.
With over 15 years of experience teaching the English language and composition courses both domestically and abroad, she has worked in intensive English language programs, private colleges, public universities, and professional organizations as an English language teacher. Her teaching experience extends to South Korea, China, Vietnam, and virtually in Lebanon as a US/DOS English Language Specialist. Dr. Charles continues to collaborate with international communities, currently serving on the international study abroad committee in the Office of Global Education at North Central College. Furthermore, she serves on the TESOL Journal editorial board and as an advocacy leader in TESOL’s Social Responsibility Interest Section. One of her recent achievements is being selected by the DOS/ECA and World Learning to join the Fulbright Specialist Roster. Dr. Charles is thrilled to be selected as a 24-25 Alumni Ambassador for the English Language Programs and looks forward to productive collaborations and educational exchanges.
