Dr. Lodewyck (she/her) holds an Interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Theatre & Drama from Northwestern University and an M.F.A. in Acting Performance from the Chicago College of the Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. As a scholar, she most recently published in the Oxford Handbook of the Positive Humanities (2022) and Makeshift Chicago Stages: A Century of Theater and Performance, winner of the American Society for Theatre Research’s 2020 Collaborative Research Award. She is also an invited contributor to Latinxshakespeares.org. Her research focuses on the transformative power of theatre, particularly during times of crisis. She has been a scholar with the Latinx Theatre Commons’ El Fuego initiative, whose mission is to produce and document new Latine plays, and a contributor to University of Pennsylvania’s Humanities and Human Flourishing Project, which aims to evidence the role of the arts in enriching societal and individual well being. She has also published articles and reviews in The Oxford Handbook of Greek Drama in the Americas, Shakespeare Bulletin,Theatre Journal, and Theatre Survey. Across the years in Chicago, Laura has worked with Chicago Fusion Theatre/Wayward Productions (Ensemble and founding member), Teatro Vista, Remy Bumppo Theatre, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Victory Gardens Theater, Court Theatre, and Illinois Theatre Center. In media and television, she has produced and voiced traffic/news for multiple stations including WLIT-FM, KISS-FM, and WLS-FM, and was awarded an Emmy (Chicago/Midwest chapter) for her contributions to the NBC5 Street Team. Recent television and commercial roles include Chicago Med (Co-star), Motorola (Principal), Wisconsin Lottery (Principal).
