Excel Program
Learn English at North Central College
The Excel Program is an opportunity for multilingual students to develop and refine the academic English skills necessary for success in college. This one-semester program is designed for students who have taken English Language Learning (ELL) classes at an American high school and students on an F1 visa for undergraduate study. The curriculum covers 12 elective credits in Listening & Speaking, Writing & Grammar, and Reading & Vocabulary.
As a student, you will focus on:
- research and academic writing
- critical thinking
- presentation and academic discussion
- synthesizing and analyzing information
- learning and applying academic vocabulary
- reading and analyzing academic texts
Students in the program earn college credit that can count toward their degree at North Central or at another institution. Additionally, they have the option to take 4 credits of other general education or elective coursework, meaning they stay on track to graduate in four years. Participants in the Excel Program receive all the benefits of being fully enrolled at North Central College: they can use their undergraduate scholarship award, participate in Division III athletics and fine arts programs, and join clubs while studying in the Excel program.
