As founding director of the Office of Sponsored Research and Programs at North Central College, Shelly Galasso ’05 pursues external grant funding to meet strategic institutional initiatives and provides critical resources to faculty seeking grants to support their own scholarly and creative work. Prior to launching OSRP, she served for 11 years as the Director of Grants within the NC Office of Development and Alumni. In her tenure at NC, Shelly has worked with faculty and staff from across campus to secure funding from the National Science Foundation; U.S. Department of Justice; U.S. Department of Education; U.S. Department of State; National Security Agency; National Endowment for the Humanities; National Endowment for the Arts; various state, county, and city agencies; and many corporate and private foundations. Prior to returning to her alma mater in 2010, Shelly worked as a research communications assistant in the laboratory of oncologist Dr. Funmi Olopade at The University of Chicago, where she provided writing and project management assistance to Dr. Olopade and her global team of researchers, graduate students, and international partners. Shelly received her undergraduate degree from North Central in biology and psychology and earned a master’s in Technical & Scientific Communication from Miami University (Ohio). Her graduate work included a one-year health communications fellowship at the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health outside Washington, D.C. Shelly balances her professional time with that spent with her husband (Nick) who is a local attorney and their three children (Ryan, Rory, and Ariana).
