10 Years of Cardinal First

This semester, we are celebrating 10 Years of Cardinal First at North Central College.  This program provides a community, connection, and cohort-based programming for our first-gen students from day one through graduation.  This semester, 922 students – and 140+ faculty and staff – identify as first-gen (defined as neither parent having completed a bachelor’s degree).

Cohort Programs:

• Cardinal First Fridays (for first-year students)
• Cardinal First Sophomore Suppers
• Cardinal First Penultimate (for juniors)
• Cardinal First Homestretch (for seniors)

November 8th is First-Generation College Celebration Day in the U.S. and November 4-8 is First-gen Celebration Week at NC. We proudly join in the national celebration to advance an asset-based narrative on first-generation student experiences and outcomes.   

If your student is a first-generation college student, they should be receiving emails and texts from Cardinal First.  If they are not, please contact Julie Carballo, Assistant Dean of Students for First-generation & Military-Affiliated Initiatives.

All first-gen students are invited to be part of the annual First-gen Celebration Day Group Photo on Friday, November 8 at 7:15am on Jefferson Lawn. Details in emails sent to first-gen students from Cardinal First.
