Jocelyn Trotter ‘27 hits the ground running with marketing internship

Jul 25, 2024

Jocelyn Trotter ‘27 is off to a fast start at North Central College. She was named to the Dean’s List each of her first two semesters and carries a 4.0 GPA. A member of the women’s basketball team, she was named First-Year Student-Athlete of the Year by the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW), and as a member of the women’s track and field team, she won a conference championship in the high jump. Trotter followed those successes with a summer marketing internship at global software developer Contruent, headquartered less than three miles from the North Central campus. She learned about the internship from her accounting professor, who encouraged her to apply. The valuable experience she gained has put her well on her way to her professional goals. Find out more about the successful beginning Trotter is having at North Central.

What kinds of things did you do during your internship?
I was involved in various key projects. I worked on ungating resources, meaning I collaborated on moving and creating web pages for webinars, case studies, guides, and datasheets. I engaged in “media hunting” when I searched for media opportunities, wrote pitches, and found contact information. I also assisted in updating both the Contruent intranet and external sites by handling SEO tasks, redirecting broken links, and rebranding pages with new information. Additionally, I used programs to improve the external site’s SEO, added backlinks, and worked on 404 error redirections.

What do you hope to do after graduation? How do you think your experience with Contruent will help you achieve your goals for the future?
After graduation, I hope to create a business centered around marketing and psychology. My experience at Contruent has significantly contributed to my understanding of various marketing facets and has equipped me with practical skills that will be invaluable in my future career.

What are your three favorite things about North Central?
The close-knit community and supportive environment, the personalized attention from professors, and the beautiful campus and its vibrant student life.

What would you tell someone who's considering enrolling at NC?
I would tell them that North Central College offers a unique blend of academic excellence and a supportive community. The College provides ample opportunities for real-world experience, and the faculty and staff are truly invested in your personal and professional growth. It’s a place where you can thrive both in and out of the classroom.
