Faculty and staff share valuable information as coronavirus brings up difficult questions

North Central College faculty and staff have been an important source for the media during the COVID-19 pandemic. They’ve given expert commentary on many everyday subjects, including mental health, presidential primaries and campaigns, and health science.

On a national front, Mary Groll, professor of health sciences, was interviewed by reporter Geoff Williams of U.S News & World Report. During her interview, Groll talked about how to handle being sick at work and what best practices are for healthcare professionals.

In addition, Dr. Ashwani Garg, medical director of the physician assistant program, was interviewed by Maria Cramer of the New York Times. He discussed whether people should still hire professional house cleaners with COVID-19 being such a problem. While public health officials say to keep a clean house to prevent the spread of the virus, many doctors are conflicted about letting house cleaners into the home.

From the political perspective, Stephen Maynard Caliendo, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and Suzanne Chod, assistant professor of political science, were each interviewed about the Illinois primary race on FOX 32 Chicago and WGN-TV respectively. William Muck, professor of political science, talked to WGN about how this year’s presidential campaign has not been conventional.
