North Central College Reopens Campus Store and Launches Online Textbook Shop
Jul 16, 2018
Cost-savings and convenience for students motivated upcoming changes to the College’s Bookstore. While it will remain in its location at 100 E. Jefferson Ave., textbook rental and purchasing will be moved to an online vendor. The campus store will continue to offer clothing and merchandise, but will expand offerings of snacks, drinks and more. Merchandise ordering will also be available online.
The College has collaborated with Akademos to create a new online textbook “store.” It will allow students to access a personalized course list and corresponding course materials, a variety of low cost buying options, a peer-to-peer marketplace, free shipping on select orders and access to year-round online buyback. Professors also have the ability to create custom coursepacks, view book details prior to adoption and add ancillary materials.
The online textbook store and merchandise shop will be available at northcentralcollege.edu/campusstore starting in early August.
“The partnership with Akademos will enable North Central College to offer students a substantial savings on textbooks and course material,” said Maryellen Skerik, vice president for finance. “The partnership will also provide the College the opportunity to repurpose the existing space dedicated to textbooks. The campus store will be operated internally with the goal of offering merchandise that is more attractive to the campus customers.”
The bookstore was located in Old Main from when the College moved to Naperville in 1870 until 1998, when it was relocated to the lower level of the Harold and Eva White Activities Center. It moved to its current location in 2010.
Beginning mid-July, the campus store will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays. Beginning in the fall and for the remainder of the school year, it will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.
