North Central to offer renewable scholarship for engineering students in fall 2019
Feb 27, 2018
North Central College is one of only eight schools in Illinois offering scholarships to high school students who participate in the FIRST Robotics Competition or the FIRST Tech Challenge.
Student teams in FIRST Robotics compete on a special playing field with robots they have designed, built and programmed. Teams in FIRST Tech are challenged to design, build and program a robot to play a floor game against other teams’ creations.
“North Central College has begun offering $2,500 scholarships that are renewable for up to four years,” said Frank Harwath, director of the College’s engineering programs.
“Students who participate in FIRST will enjoy many benefits from coming to North Central College. Experience is the best teacher, and our engineering programs are structured to give the students many hands-on opportunities to develop their skills,” said Harwath.
North Central College will be offering four-year bachelor of science degrees in computer, electrical and mechanical engineering starting with the 2018-2019 academic year.
Incoming freshmen for fall 2019 may apply for a scholarship if they have actively participated in the FIRST Tech Challenge or the FIRST Robotics Competition during junior or senior year of high school and earned a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The scholarship application will be made available October 2018.
