Nathan N. Bartel

Class Year: 1937
Outstanding Alumni Award Winner 1982

Rev. Nathan Bartel has given a lifetime of service to his church and his college. During 30 years as a pastor in the former Evangelical United Brethren Church, serving several different communities in Wisconsin, he also held leadership positions in the Wisconsin Council of Churches. From 1966-1975, he directed church relations alumni relations, and special admissions services at North Central. Following that, he turned his talents to help lead an interdenominational research and development organization in Naperville. During his retirement, he has been a part-time associate for development at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary.

 

Alvin C. Eurich

Class Year: 1924
Outstanding Alumni Award Winner 1982

Alvin Eurich was selected as the first chancellor of the State University of New York in 1949 and was later named vice president and executive director of the Ford Foundation’s Education Program. He authored or co-authored numerous books and designed several psychological and achievement tests. He served as a member of various committees on educational research - he was a member of President Harry Truman’s Commission on Higher Education, President John F. Kennedy’s Task Force on Education, and was also a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He was elected as an honorary member of North Central College’s Board of Trustees in 1971.

 

Haldon Leedy

Outstanding Alumni Award Winner 1982

Haldon Leedy, a native of Ohio, was awarded a master’s degree in 1935 and a Ph.D. in 1938 from the University of Illinois. He was appointed vice president of G.D. Searle & Co., a position he held until 1976 when he resigned to return to teaching and consulting in research administration. His research interests focused on the topics of atomic energy, air pollution and noise control. Leedy was elected to the Board of Trustees at North Central College in 1963 and he also served two years as vice president for administrative affairs.

 

Robert Holmes

Class Year: 1966

Bob Holmes received a degree in political science from North Central College in 1965.  His professional career began as a stockbroker with Merrill, Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith, and then progressed rapidly through a series of promotions with the firm Blyth, Eastman, Dillon & Company.  He then became president of his own firm, Gilford Securities, Inc., which has offices nationwide. He currently serves on the board of trustees for the Crested Butte Academy in Crested Butte, Colo., and Marywood Country Day School in Rancho Mirage, Calif. Holmes served on the College’s Board of Trustees from 1979-93, and was a member of the Board’s Public Affairs and Development Committee.

 

Sam Sumwalt

Sam Sumwalt is president of Entre’ Computer Center in Lafayette, La. He is also an instructor for the Realtor’s National Marketing Institute, as well as his own company. His involvements in his community include president of Round Tree Commons Homeowners Association and choir member and chair of Every Member Commitment Committee for Prince of Peace United Methodist Church.  He also serves in the Naval Air Reserve in Glenview, Ill.
