North Central College co-sponsors the fifth annual SEL Summit

North Central College is proud to partner with Illinois Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (IL ASCD) and Mindful Practices as a gold-level sponsor for the 2022 SEL Summit in the City: Elevating SEL and Well-Being. As a sponsor, North Central will host three virtual sessions on July 21, 2022 featuring character thought leaders and practitioners.

North Central sponsored speakers include:

  • Jay Darley, principal of Forest Park Individual Education, a National School of Character, who will discuss Elevating a Healthy Culture in Your School;
  • Anne Kasa, instructional technology coach with Learning Technology Center of Illinois, speaking on Supporting Intrapersonal CASEL Competencies with Digital Tools;
  • Drs. Julie Sperry and Kristen Pelster, representing CharacterPlus and The Center for Character and Citizenship, presenting Building Community is as Simple as Knowing your ABCDs.

North Central College’s character-strand speaker series presented during the 2022 SEL Summit highlights the timely focus on the leadership needed in schools today. It is an extension of the College’s Cultures of Character Initiatives, which are designed to offer a national model of school leader preparation, focused on the moral purpose of building the capacity of social, emotional and ethical competencies, as these attributes of character set a strong leadership foundation. 

The Elevating SEL and Well-Being virtual conference highlights experts across 70 breakout sessions to support educators and leaders in “how” to craft a multifaceted approach to SEL in classrooms and school communities. Visit https://sel-summit.com/ to register to attend.

Illinois Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (IL ASCD) focuses on issues, trends, and research that relate to learning, teaching and leading. Founded in 1947, it is one of the six original affiliates of the international organization ASCD.

Mindful Practices, founded in 2006, specializes in the implementation of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and well-being using a comprehensive and data-driven approach. The program received CASEL’s highest designation for high-quality SEL programming

Cultures of Character Initiatives at North Central College provide distinctive classroom concepts, experiential learning, and professional development opportunities that will prepare practitioners and administrators to lead cultures of character in PK-12 schools. These Initiatives are comprised of three distinct programs for classroom educators, aspiring administrative leaders and seasoned administrators. These programs include Master of Education in Educational Leadership, Character Education Certificate, Leadership Academy.
