North Central College named to Phi Theta Kappa Honor Roll
May 07, 2018
North Central College has been named to Phi Theta Kappa’s 2018 Transfer Honor Roll for the first time. Open to all regionally accredited baccalaureate degree-granting institutions, the Transfer Honor Roll recognizes excellence and success in community college transfer pathway development. North Central is one of 112 institutions receiving this year’s honor.
Nicholas DeFalco, director of transfer admissions at the College, sees this accomplishment as an opportunity for growth.
“The PTK Honor Roll is quite an impressive accomplishment for any school, especially one of our size,” said DeFalco. “It really helps validate our claim and commitment to being a welcoming, transfer-friendly destination for our community college students. In the coming years, we hope to continue this trend and further support the growth and success of our transfer population.”
The College accepted the recognition at the annual Phi Theta Kappa convention held in Kansas City, Mo., April 19 – 21, 2018.
To be considered, participating institutions completed an application detailing their transfer programs. Applications were evaluated in the areas of scholarship and financial aid, admissions outreach, student support services and student engagement opportunities.
“The collaborative efforts between our Admission Office, Registrar’s Office, Academic Advising, Orientation and faculty, among others, have helped us create the tools necessary to be deemed an ‘Honor Roll’ institution,” said DeFalco. “With a third of North Central’s current population comprised of transfer students, it is important for us to continually evaluate, and re-evaluate, how we can best attract and support future transfer students.”
Phi Theta Kappa is the premier honor society recognizing the academic achievement of students at associate degree-granting colleges and helping them to grow as scholars and leaders. The society is made up of more than 3.5 million members and nearly 1,300 chapters in nine nations.
