North Central College continues to increase their sustainability efforts.
This summer, they became a participating institution in the Billion Dollar Green Challenge, which encourages organizations to invest a combined total of $1 billion toward sustainability projects.
“We believe that there’s an opportunity for colleges and universities to lead the way in sustainability, by being able to invest in energy efficiency projects that really impact both the environment but also the financials of the institution all the while create amazing learning opportunities for the students and the faculty,” said President of North Central College, Troy Hammond.
Since 2014, North Central has financed energy efficient projects like installing LED lighting and solar panels in buildings on campus through their Cardinal Sustainability Fund.
The college has committed $1.8 million toward their sustainability projects.
So far North Central is one of only two institutions in Illinois to join the challenge.
