Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Force Spring 2021 Forums

Dear Campus Community, 

I write today to encourage your attendance at the two forums sponsored by the College’s Task Force on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) this semester.  

The first, "White Supremacy and Racial Violence, 1867-2021," is an online community event that will be held from noon to 1:15 p.m. on Thursday, March 25 via GoToMeeting. Facilitated by two student members of the Task Force, Davin Allen and Rola Gòkè-Pariolá, the forum will be an exchange between Dr. Sean Kim Butorac, Assistant Professor of Political Science, and Dr. Will Barnett, Professor of History. Dr. Butorac will track the development of the South Carolina penitentiary during and after Reconstruction, while Dr. Barnett will examine political violence by white supremacists against Black political advances in the late-nineteenth-century South. The second spring campus form, “Campus Climate Survey,” will take place on Tuesday, April 13 at 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The presentation will be given by Dr. Suzanne Chod, Professor of Political Science, Dr. Nicole Rivera, Associate Professor of Psychology, Dr. Jennifer Shah, Assistant Professor of Education, members of the Campus Forum Working Group of the DEI Task Force, and student researchers participating in the climate survey data analysis and focus group facilitation. The goal of the forum is to share procedural details of the administration of the HEDS Diversity and Equity Climate Survey and supplemental focus groups with the campus community. We will also highlight the student researchers’ involvement in analyzing the data, the researchers’ commitment to transparency, and the procedures that will be used to interpret and understand the data. You can access "Campus Climate Survey" at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13 here: https://global.gotomeeting.com/join/128064165
