Student Affairs November Update
Nov 05, 2024
The Office of Student Affairs would like to remind you of the support we offer your student(s) as we enter the final stretch of the fall 2024 semester! We also want to acknowledge the incredible work that you’ve done to help your student to get to this point in their lives. It’s no easy task to parent in today’s world, and we are grateful to all that you do for them.
We’ve thoroughly enjoyed your students’ engagement and Cardinal Spirit on campus. While we remind them directly, please feel free to remind your students that they have a team of individuals on campus who are passionate about supporting them as they progress through their academic journey. Below are some of those resources and supports:
- 2024-25 Academic Calendar
- Athletics Composite Calendar (all sports)
- Campus Map
- Residence Life
- Clubs and Activities
- Cardinal First (see more below)
- Dyson Wellness Center (see more below)
Events & Programs
Your students should check their NC email for all important information and a weekly newsletter from the Office of Student Engagement and Belonging (OSEB@noctrl.edu). Those newsletters highlight upcoming events and share a link where they can see all that’s happening on campus. Here’s the web address of that link to share as a reminder to your student: https://noctrl.presence.io/events/cal
While there are many campus events to enjoy like yoga, mindfulness meditation, and Dyson Dog Days, here’s a highlighted description of one upcoming event that is made possible thanks to a grant from the City of Naperville:
Critical Conversations, November 21 (6:30-8:30 pm) Pfieffer Hall
Captivating public speaker, Ivy Watts, a former All-American student-athlete, initially seemed to have it all together, graduating Summa Cum Laude and securing a spot as a top 30 finalist for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award. However, behind this façade of success, she grappled daily with anxiety, self-worth issues, and depression. After finally seeking help, Ivy has dedicated herself to promoting mental wellness and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health.
Student mental health and well-being are important to us. The Dyson Wellness Center is located on the second floor of Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. The Dyson Wellness Center is where full-time registered students can get confidential medical care, mental health counseling, and interpersonal violence support services. The Dyson Wellness Center offers appointments in-person or virtually through a 24/7/365 telehealth service. To schedule, call 630-637-5550 or email dysonwellness@noctrl.edu. If you are having difficulty transitioning to college life this fall, I encourage you to reach out to our caring Dyson staff.
We would be remiss if we did not recognize that the political climate can cause stress. We encourage students to utilize resources to manage any political-related stress. Students can go to this web address for tips on handling election stress: https://hub.northcentralcollege.edu/sites/dyson-wellness-center/documents/preview/33082/Election-Anxiety-Flyer #MentalHealthMatters
Continue to cheer your students on as they navigate their college journey and know that we are here supporting them along the way!
Sincerely,
Dr. Jessica Brown
Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students
