College issues statement after events in Charlottesville, Va.
Aug 15, 2017
Leaders at North Central College issued a statement Aug. 14 following the events in Charlottesville, Va.:
Dear North Central College Campus Community:
Our campus will soon welcome a class of new students as we come together to start the 2017-2018 academic year. One of the College’s strategic imperatives, born from our core values, expressly states that we will “Thrive as a diverse, inclusive, and globally engaged community, preparing students for action and leadership in a complex world.”
The events in Charlottesville, Va., this past weekend were shocking and repulsive; they serve as an unfortunate reminder that racism, bigotry, and hate exist in our country and in the world.
North Central College will continue to be a global community that values respectful dialogue, diversity and inclusion. We reject acts of hatred and remain firmly committed to a campus community where everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or nationality, feels safe and welcomed as valued and important members of the North Central College community.
As we prepare to start a new academic year, we ask for your continued support in living out our institutional values for diversity and inclusion and in standing against racism, bigotry, and hate.
