Laura is mastering multiple subjects by studying social science/history at North Central College.
“You become a well-rounded historian and get a taste of politics, geography, anthropology and sociology,” she says. “It’s a lot of work, but you pick up research and writing skills you can use for the rest of your life.”
Laura enjoys the out-of-class opportunities the College provides. She’s the viceroy of the North Central History Association—a group she helped create. Members engage in a variety of activities, including trips to historical landmarks—both local and national.
“We hope to create a friendly and welcoming environment where both students and professors can engage in academic discussions,” she says.
After graduating, Laura wants to work as a bilingual high school social studies and history teacher. She plans to use many of her professors’ techniques in her own classroom.
“They’ve taught me how to make history, government and all the various aspects of social science fun and engaging.”
