In addition to the five spring break trips, a group of seven football players traveled to Johns Island, S.C., a rural area near Charleston, to work with the Sea Island Habitat for Humanity affiliate, one of the oldest and largest affiliates in the country. The men spent the week of March 21-25 framing a house, installing drywall in another house and helping pour a foundation in a third house. Joining the men was Gary Ireland, director of student involvement and assistant dean of students. He said the construction supervisor pulled him aside the last day and said that thanks to the men from North Central, they had one of the most productive weeks of work he could ever remember.
The men on the trip included Joe Schneiderbauer ’11, Ryan Hambleton ’12, Kevin Pashakarnis ’12, Joe Guenther ’13, Joey Michals ’13, Alex Pirela ’13 and Austin Sadnick ’13.
