Haiti Crisis puts alumna in the spotlight

During the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake, Jaclyn Mitchell ’99 served as spokesperson for the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago as part of her position as director of marketing and communications. Among her tasks was to handle a press conference at O’Hare International Airport upon the arrival of a United Airlines flight of evacuees. “It was totally amazing,” she said of a day that stretched until 4 a.m. Mitchell and her staff worked without a break for 10 days following the January 12 event. An English major at North Central, she said it’s been her goal to work at the Red Cross for nearly 10 years and she landed her current position about a year ago. “I’ve dreamed of working for the Red Cross since graduation.”
