North Central College again ranks among the best colleges in the nation to work for, according to The Chronicle of Higher Education. Results of a study released in August in The Chronicle’s fifth annual report on The Academic Workplace are based on a survey of nearly 46,000 employees at 294 colleges and universities. This is the second consecutive year the College has been achieved this status. This year, North Central was recognized in two categories:
Collaborative Governance, which acknowledges that faculty members are actively involved in decisions related to academic programs.
Respect and Appreciation, where employees say they are regularly recognized for their contributions.
In all, only 103 of the 294 institutions achieved “Great College to Work For” recognition for specific best practices and policies. Results are reported for small, medium and large institutions, with North Central College included among the small colleges with 2,999 or fewer students.
The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institutional audit that captured demographics and workplace policies from each institution, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators and professional support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback.
