Sept. 15, 2011—For the 18th consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report names North Central College among “America’s Best Colleges.”
North Central is ranked No. 23 in the Midwest in the Regional Universities category—schools that offer a full range of undergraduate and master’s degrees.
U.S. News bases its rankings on a system that evaluates up to 15 indicators of academic excellence, including assessment by administrators at other institutions and high school counselors, student quality, student retention, class size, faculty qualifications and alumni giving. Nationwide, about 600 schools are ranked by U.S. News within four geographic regions.
North Central College begins its Sesquicentennial year with record enrollment of more than 3,000 students, including more than 2,700 undergraduate students. Fall term classes began Sept. 12 with about 850 new students, including 575 new first-year students and 280 transfer students. This is the most diverse population in North Central’s 150-year history, with 18 percent minorities.
