Barry Skurkis, North Central College associate professor of art, is vice president of the Chicago Society of Artists and arranged the society’s Members’ Exhibit, sponsored by the Anderson Art Center in Kenosha, Wis. Skurkis selected the artists, artwork and prepared the prospectus. Some 37 artists participated and displayed more than 120 pieces of art, which included oil and acrylic paintings, watercolors, monoprints, photographs and sculptures. In addition, the Chicago Society of Artists 2012 Traveling Calendar Exhibit will also be on display at the center. Both exhibits run Aug. 26 through Oct. 21.
In the Members’ Exhibit, Skurkis showcased four pastel drawings and one acrylic painting. In the Traveling Calendar Exhibit, he included two block prints, titled “Robin” and “Puffin.” The artists’ reception for both exhibits takes place from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26. In addition, Skurkis is the featured artist in the Anderson Art Center Gift Store with 30 drawings and prints on display.
Skurkis joined the North Central College faculty in 1982. He holds a B.F.A. from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an M.A. from the University of Notre Dame.
