Emily Prather-Rodgers, North Central College technical services coordinator for Oesterle Library, was elected vice president/president elect of the American Library Association’s (ALA) New Members Round Table’s (NMRT) Executive Board. The NMRT helps those who have been association members less than 10 years become actively involved in the association and the profession.
She will serve one year as vice president, one year as president and one year as past president. Her service begins at the conclusion of the ALA Annual Conference 2012 in Anaheim, Calif., June 21-26.
As vice president, her duties will include recruiting committee chairs and members for her presidential year, working closely with the president to ensure that NMRT activities and policies are of greatest possible benefit to the members of the round table, representing NMRT as an elected officer at various ALA events at the mid-winter and annual conferences, and establishing priorities and goals for her presidential year.
Prather-Rodgers joined the North Central College staff in 2007 but has been involved in ALA since her graduate school days, serving on various committees. She received her B.A. from Transylvania University and an M.S.L.S. (master of library science) from the University of Kentucky. “I’ve always found it beneficial to me personally as a librarian and to the College to be involved in a dynamic professional association like the ALA. The networking with other librarians and opportunities to learn from other schools is very worthwhile,” she says.
