North Central College’s exercise science program was recently recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and received acceptance to the association’s Education Recognition Program (ERP). The ERP recognizes colleges and universities that offer at least a bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in strength and conditioning or related field.

This distinction by the NCSA educational committee recognized North Central’s curriculum, faculty and overall program for successfully meeting criteria established by the NCSA and preparing students to complete and pass the NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) exam.

“Having this recognition allows our students to be confident that our curriculum provides them with the requisite knowledge needed to be successful when they sit for the CSCS exam,” says Kendall Selsky (photo, left), visiting assistant professor of health and physical health/physical education. Selsky teaches in the exercise science and athletic training programs and coordinates internships and curriculum for exercise science, in particular.

Students who become Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists use their education and skills to train athletes with the goal of improving athletic performance. As certified specialists, they conduct sport-specific testing sessions, design and implement safe and effective strength training and conditioning programs, and provide guidance on nutrition and injury prevention.
