Neil Nicholson, North Central College assistant professor of mathematics, was a coauthor of a chapter in the book titled “Service-Learning in Higher Education: Connecting the Global to the Local.” The book emerged from presentations at the Fourth International Symposium on Service-Learning held in China in September 2011, where Nicholson co-presented with colleagues from the University of Indiana-Bloomington and William Jewell College.
The chapter, titled “Lasting Learning: Measuring Impact through Success and Sustainability,” is an exploration of long-term, sustained service-learning projects, using the Enactus (formerly SIFE) model. One North Central Enactus project, NCC’s Best, is presented as an example of a best practice, sustained service-learning project. Nicholson serves as a faculty adviser for the College’s Enactus team.
Nicholson has been teaching at North Central College since 2010. He earned a B.A. from Lake Forest College and a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa.
