Douglas Engelman earns 2012 Outstanding Major in Sociology and Anthropology Award

May 21, 2012—Douglas Engelman of Naperville was awarded the 2012 Outstanding Major in Sociology and Anthropology Award during Honors Day May 15 at North Central College.

Engelman is a senior majoring in sociology with minors in English and social change/public advocacy at North Central College. He has been accepted into the graduate degree sociology program at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, where he has been awarded a full scholarship and a teaching assistantship. He intends to pursue a doctorate in sociology after earning a master’s degree, with the goal of teaching, researching and lecturing.

A nontraditional student, he presented research in March at the Midwest Sociological Society in Minneapolis. The research was titled “How Familiarity with SMI and Other Social Forces on Campus Influence Student Cohort Attitudes and Attribution.”
