Chicago Chamber Musicians brass ensemble performs March 4 at North Central

Jan. 5, 2011—The Chicago Chamber Musicians will cover a broad range of classical music styles and showcase some of the greatest compositions for brass with a performance March 4 in North Central College’s acoustically stunning Wentz Concert Hall.

The evening’s program consists of five contrapuncti, or counterpoints, from The Art of Fugue by Johann Sebastian Bach; Dmitri Shostakovich’s Quartet No. 8 in C Minor, Opus 110; Aaron Copland’s Four American Folk Songs; and Verne Reynolds’ Suite for Brass.

The concert begins at 8 p.m. Friday, March 4, in North Central College’s Wentz Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Tickets are $30 and $25; call the North Central College Box Office at 630-637-SHOW (7469) or visit northcentralcollege.edu/showtix.

The performance will feature Chicago Chamber Musicians brass ensemble members Barbara Butler and Charles Geyer, trumpet; Gail Williams, horn; Matthew Gaunt, tuba; and Michael Mulcahy, trombone.

Grammy-nominated and named 2007 Chamber Ensemble of the Year by the Illinois Council of Orchestras, Chicago Chamber Musicians has toured extensively and developed an international reputation for fresh, intimate and nuanced performances by musicians who consistently work together as an ensemble.
