Patricia Bayona, North Central College adjunct assistant professor of Spanish, is editor of an article in the new book “New Trends in Crosslinguistic Influence and Multilingualism Research,” Ed. Gessica de Angelis and Jean-Marc Dewaele by Multilingual Matters.
The book offers the latest developments in crosslinguistic influence and multilingualism research. Each chapter focuses on an aspect of how the knowledge of multiple languages is represented in the linguistic competence and production of multilinguals. Participants in these studies are speakers of at least three of the following languages: English, Spanish, German, French, Finnish, Swedish, Polish, Chinese and/or Catalan.
Bayona joined North Central’s faculty in fall 2011. She received a B.A. from La Universidad de Los Andes, Colombia, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Western Ontario. As a linguist, Bayona specializes in the acquisition of Spanish by multilinguals, as well as in the sociolinguistic study of Spanish.
