The campus community is invited to attend the sixth annual Bryan House Silent Auction from 7 to 9:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, at Community Christian Church, 1635 Emerson Lane in Naperville (corner of Ogden Avenue and Rickert Drive).

All proceeds from the silent auction will benefit Bryan House, a transitional housing program for refugee families from around the world. Shoppers can choose from hundreds of items, starting as low as $4; click here to learn more and view a sample list of items.



Early-bird holiday shopping at NCC’s Best store

Enactus (formerly SIFE) will hold its NCC’s Best Fair Trade Open House, 9 a.m.- 4 p.m., Nov. 15-16 and 23 at the 116 S. Brainard House.

NCC’s Best, the business arm of North Central College’s Enactus (formerly SIFE), will hold its Week 10 NCC’s Best Fair Trade Open House from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 15-16, inside the 116 S. Brainard House.

Both holiday and every-occasion shoppers are welcome to stop by, browse and purchase products from an inventory of organic, certified green, certified fair trade and direct-trade items, including coffee and various crafts produced in Central American and African countries.

Fall Recycling Extravaganza is success

North Central’s Recycling Extravaganza collected and recycled scrap metal, electronics, bicycles, fire extinguishers, and school, office and art supplies.

The results are in … for the fall Recycling Extravaganza, that is. North Central College successfully completed its first Recycling Extravaganza event on Oct. 6. The College collected scrap metal, electronics, bicycles, fire extinguishers, and school, office and art supplies. All the collected items were able to be recycled and kept out of landfills.

The North Central College men’s cross country squad heads to Terre Haute, Ind., Saturday, Nov. 17, for the NCAA Division III National Championship, after winning the NCAA DIII Midwest Regional Championship for the fifth consecutive season last weekend. The men’s race at nationals is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Nov. 17.

North Central College’s senior athletic training students compete in final round, take fourth place at IATA College Bowl.

North Central College’s athletic training students returned from competition at the 2012 Illinois Athletic Trainers Association (IATA) College Bowl, an annual event held during the two-day IATA State Meeting and Clinical Symposium. This year’s contest of knowledge and skill was held Nov. 4 at the Wyndham Lisle-Chicago Hotel.

North Central’s competitors—seniors Matthew Hussey, Kristi Lishman and Jason DePue—represented the College’s athletic training education program, with Trevor Magnotti standing ready to serve as alternate.

North Central College’s Concert Winds hosts the annual Instrumental Invitational Festival with Plainfield East High School Wind Ensemble Tuesday, Nov. 13.

North Central College’s Concert Winds, directed by Professor of Music and Director of Bands Lawrence Van Oyen, will host the annual Instrumental Invitational Festival at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in Wentz Concert Hall.

The annual event features the 92-member Concert Winds and local high school ensembles. This year’s guest band is the Plainfield East High School Wind Ensemble, directed by David Lesniak ’99, who has served as an applied faculty member at North Central.

The exhibit is free and open to the public in the College’s Schoenherr Gallery at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. A reception with artists will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17; complimentary refreshments will be served. The exhibit is sponsored by JP Morgan and the College’s Yellow Ribbon Program.

Office of International Programs hosts its annual fundraiser for scholarships—the International Roundtable Lunch—and panel on global human rights Nov. 13.

As part of this year’s international focus on global human rights, the Office of International Programs will host its final event of the term, the International Roundtable Lunch and panel discussion. The event is also the annual fundraiser to benefit international education scholarships.
