Two North Central College students—Nora Beswick ’13 (photo, left) and Emily Goodfellow ’14 (right)—were selected to attend the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders at the University of Maryland in College Park, Md., May 31-June 2.

Women’s Chorale tours, sings in Ireland

The North Central College Women’s Chorale travels to Ireland June 12-19 on second tour abroad, along with music faculty and Chorale alumnae.

Some 36 members of the North Central College Women’s Chorale embarked on the ensemble’s second trip abroad, to Ireland, June 12-19. The women traveled to Dublin, Galway, Killarney and Bray and gave performances in historic cathedrals like St. Patrick’s in Dublin and enjoyed seeing the spectacular Cliffs of Moher, Aran Islands and the Ring of Kerry.

Football team wins exhibition game in Spain

The North Central College football team traveled to Spain June 11-19 and posted an exhibition victory June 17, defeating the Spanish national team, 36-3, in the Barcelona Classic at the Estadi Municipal D'athletisme Joan Serrahima in Montjuic Park.

In addition to the game, North Central was afforded the opportunity to enjoy guided tours and opportunities to explore the culture of Spain. North Central also visited Italy in 2006 and Switzerland in 2009. More

North Central College remembers the life and service of Life Trustee Rita G. Harvard, a Naperville native, community leader and loyal friend of the College.

North Central College is remembering Life Trustee Rita G. Harvard, a Naperville native, community leader and loyal friend of the College, who passed away on June 15, 2012. She was 82.

Harvard’s many connections to Naperville made a significant impact on the College, including her role as honorary chair of community fundraising for the $30 million Wentz Concert Hall and Fine Arts Center.

June 7, 2012—Proceeds from the sale of artwork currently exhibited at North Central College will directly benefit the College’s Riverwalk Gateway project.

Visitors may purchase more than 40 different pieces from the exhibit “Images from a Well-Traveled Lens,” on display through June 24 in Schoenherr Gallery at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. The exhibit showcases the photography of Hunt Harris, a Moline native who has visually documented his travels around the world.

North Central College alumnus and Illinois Teacher of the Year Josh Stumpenhorst threw out the first pitch before a Cubs game at Wrigley Field.

June 13, 2012—One of the perks of being Illinois Teacher of the Year is throwing out the first pitch before a Cubs game at Wrigley Field.

North Central College alumnus Josh Stumpenhorst experienced his day at the Friendly Confines on Tuesday, June 12, before a night game versus the Detroit Tigers. Stumpenhorst attended with his wife and their two young children, who were excited to meet Cubs pitcher Alberto Cabrera.

“Cabrera just talked to my boys and signed a ball,” Stumpenhorst Tweeted before the big moment. “They are in heaven.”

June 9, 2012—Peace Corps Director Aaron S. Williams delivered the address Saturday, June 9, at the 147th Commencement of North Central College.

Williams noted it was the final Commencement for North Central College President Harold R. Wilde, who is retiring at the end of 2012 after 22 years as president.

“North Central College is fortunate to have had a President with such a long and exceptional tenure,” Williams told the audience. “While I’m sure everyone is sad to see you go, we know that you are leaving behind an incredible legacy.”

From try-out to All-America honors in four years

Since stepping onto campus four years ago, Brianna Tolliver ’12 has made her mark as a student leader, radio broadcaster and as an All-America honoree in the javelin throw.
