Music education alumnus joins staff of performing arts school in St. Charles

Mike Krieglstein, a 2010 music education alumnus, has joined the staff of the Vero Voce School of Visual and Performing Arts in St. Charles.

Musician Mike Krieglstein, a 2010 music education alumnus of North Central College, has joined the staff of the Vero Voce School of Visual and Performing Arts in St. Charles as a guitar and bass teacher, the Aurora Beacon-News reported.

North Central College senior Mike Mathieu has been named defensive line coach of Neuqua Valley High School’s varsity football team.

Mathieu, who is majoring in physical education with a minor in coaching, begins his new job this fall for the Naperville high school in Indian Prairie School District 204.

He’s played football at North Central College for four years, as the Cardinals earned four straight College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) football championships and appeared twice in the NCAA Division III playoffs.

North Central College’s Summer Musical Theatre celebrates its 15th anniversary this year with three shows.

The annual productions have been drawing large crowds to Pfeiffer Hall and other venues since 1998, when Fine Arts Director Brian Lynch staged “Brigadoon” in partnership with a local young actors’ group.

“What started out as a fun way to spend the summer has turned into a tradition for numerous families and friends in the area,” Lynch says. “The Summer Musical Theatre program has grown beyond our wildest expectations.

More than 200 Naperville-area teachers gathered at North Central College June 18-22 to learn from some of the nation’s leading experts on literacy education.

The College partnered with Naperville Community Unit School District 203 to present the weeklong symposium, which provided teachers the opportunity to learn about the latest trends and best practices for teaching reading and writing to children in grades kindergarten through high school.

Kate Lueders, a North Central College senior majoring in biology, is conducting research and performing field work in Oregon this summer as a Sea Grant Scholar.

June 26, 2012—Kate Lueders, a North Central College senior majoring in biology, is conducting research and performing field work in Oregon this summer as a Sea Grant Scholar.

Lueders is keeping a blog about her experience and writes that she arrived in the Pacific Northwest in mid-June to undergo orientation and safety training. Her work this summer involves the study of nutrient uptake in tidal wetlands.

A DVD boxed set is on sale of the documentary series about the 150-year history of North Central College.

The five-part documentary series “A Promising Start” commemorates the College’s Sesquicentennial. The documentary series production was led by Naperville Community Television’s Emmy Award-winning Executive Director Elizabeth Braham Spencer, who also is adjunct professor of broadcast communication at the College.
