A variety of undergraduate and graduate-level courses may be applied toward graduation requirements at a student’s home institution. Classes begin June 15 and continue through Aug. 7.

North Central College will showcase the artwork of Chicago painter Brian Ritchard from April 10 through June 14.

Titled “Turbine Paintings Series,” the free exhibit will be on display in the College’s Schoenherr Gallery at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. The artist will greet visitors at a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 6; complimentary refreshments will be served.

North Central students achieve Dean’s List honors for winter term

North Central College has named its Dean’s List of scholars for the 2015 winter term.

North Central College has named its Dean’s List of scholars for the 2015 winter term. To be eligible for the Dean’s List, undergraduate students must maintain a grade-point average of 3.6 (4.0=A) for the term and be enrolled as full-time students.

North Central College’s WONC-FM 89.1 was awarded the Best Overall Radio Station in the nation and general manager John Madormo won Best Advisor in the nation.

It’s official: North Central College’s student-run radio station WONC-FM 89.1 is the best of the best. For the first time in its history, WONC was awarded the Abraham & Brost Award for Best Overall Radio Station in the nation at the March 7 Awards Ceremony at the 75th annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) International Conference in New York City.

Three teams of computer science students from North Central College continued their tradition of excellence at the 2015 Associated Colleges of the Chicagoland Area (ACCA) computer programming competition held Feb. 21 at Benedictine University in Lisle.

Taking first place in the advanced division were team members Chase Smith, a senior computer science major from Aurora; Ian Braun, a junior biochemistry major from Naperville; and Brett Bush, a senior computer science major from Clarendon Hills.

North Central College student veterans met with government officials, networked with peers and learned about opportunities for military veterans pursuing college degrees during Illinois Student Veterans Leadership Day Feb. 25 in Springfield.

Attending were students James Lynch of Wheaton, a first-year political science major who served in the U.S. Navy, and Maria Kornfeind ’15 of Downers Grove, an accounting major who served in the U.S. Marines.

Student journalists win five awards in sports game stories, headline writing, features, photography and sports design from Illinois College Press Association.

Student journalists from North Central College have earned five awards for excellence from the Illinois College Press Association (ICPA).

The awards were announced at ICPA’s annual conference Feb. 20-21 in Chicago. College newspapers throughout Illinois, ranging from those at small colleges to publications at large state universities, participated in the annual journalism contest. Entries are judged by working journalists and professional editors who are members of the Illinois Press Association. Some 38 schools contributed 1,260 entries, resulting in 270 winners.

Teach First alumni share expertise with first-generation future teachers

North Central College hosted its first annual Teach First Alumni Academy on Feb. 20 with 55 current Teach First students and eight Teach First Alumni Mentors participating. The mentors, who were first-generation college students at North Central and now are full-time teachers, prepared and facilitated interactive professional development workshops.
