Each spring, North Central College hosts the sectional competition in the Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering (WYSE) Academic Challenge. Designed to present a challenge to the brightest high school students, this year’s contest will be held Thursday, March 19.

North Central College has named Dr. Abiodun “GP” Goke-Pariola its next vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty.

Dr. Goke-Pariola will begin his new role at North Central College on July 1 after serving most recently as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Queens University of Charlotte in North Carolina. He previously served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio.

Gov. Quinn announces grant to fund North Central College park improvements

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn announced a $1.1 million grant to fund improvements to a future downtown Naperville public park on land owned by North Central College.

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn on Tuesday announced a $1.1 million grant to help fund improvements to a future downtown Naperville public park on land owned by North Central College.

The funding will help cover the cost of environmental restoration of the 1-acre site at 430 S. Washington St., known as North Central College Washington Street Riverwalk Park.

“This is an opportunity to expand the Riverwalk and connect a great campus renowned for many things to downtown Naperville,” Quinn said.

North Central College welcomes Riad Ismat as scholar-in-residence for the 2014-2015 academic year. Ismat will serve as visiting professor of arts and letters. He will teach courses in playwriting, acting and directing, besides lecturing on Syria, Arabic literature and drama.
