Starting Saturday morning, Nov. 17, the men’s cross country team will compete at the NCAA Division III National Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. The men’s race is set to get underway at 10 a.m. Central time (11 a.m., Eastern). Nationally, the Cardinal men are ranked No. 2 in the NCAA Division III National Coaches’ Top 35 Poll, behind only Haverford College (Pa.). Results will be available at northcentralcardinals.com as soon as possible Saturday.

The North Central College men’s cross country squad heads to Terre Haute, Ind., Saturday, Nov. 17, for the NCAA Division III National Championship, after winning the NCAA DIII Midwest Regional Championship for the fifth consecutive season last weekend. North Central College will induct six new members to its Athletics Hall of Fame at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, in Wentz Concert Hall during Homecoming Weekend.

The sports information office has published profiles about the first two inductees: Frank Gramarosso, Cardinals head men’s track and field coach and associate head men’s cross country coach, and Jim Dickerson ’95, who competed in the men’s cross country and track and field programs.

For the second time in three years North Central College men’s cross country head coach Al Carius was honored Nov. 23 by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA), winning the 2011 NCAA Division III National Coach of the Year Award.

The Cardinal men’s cross country team claimed its 14th national title on Nov. 19 at the Lake Breeze Golf Course in Wisconsin. Rallying from an early setback, the men returned to No. 1 in the nation for the second time in three years at the NCAA Division III National Championships.

For the second straight season the national title came down to a battle between the Midwest Region Champion Cardinals and the Haverford College (Pa.) Fords, champions of the Mideast Region. The Cardinals tallied 110 points with the runner-up Fords team finishing with a score of 172.

For just the sixth time in school history, the North Central College men’s cross country team achieved a perfect score at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Championships, sweeping the top five spots on Oct. 29 at Montrose Harbor for the dominating victory. The Cardinals have now won 38 consecutive CCIW titles in cross country and 45 overall while tallying a perfect score for the first time since 2009. North Central additionally achieved perfect scores in 2004, 1999, 1997 and 1987.

Winning contests on Nov. 13 meant the men’s cross country and football teams head to NCAA Division III National Championships in their sports on Nov. 20. In cross country, all seven runners finished in the top 25 at regionals, securing the team’s third straight NCAA Division III Midwest Regional title at the Saukie Golf Course and participation in the National Championships in Waverly, Iowa. The squad aims to claim its second straight national title and 14th overall.
