Many of the April 19-23 student-led Earth Week events required compiling information and calculating results. During Monday’s “Lights Out” event, students were asked to turn off their overhead dorm lights for one hour, 7-8 p.m. This single event saved 36,480 watts of electricity and 47.31 lbs. of carbon emissions. During the recycling competition on Wednesday, trash and recycling was collected from each dorm. Students in Schneller Hall had recycled the highest percentage (39.4) of all the trash that was collected from their dorm and won the contest.
