Women’s, men’s track & field win indoor CCIW championships

The women’s track & field grabbed an early lead after day one and never relented and secured its first CCIW Indoor Championship since 2007 on Feb. 26 at Illinois Wesleyan University. The sixth-ranked Cardinals won seven events and racked up 252 points almost doubling-up the runner-up and host Titans’ 135 points.

In the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s (USTFCCCA) National Team Computer Rankings, the men’s track & field squad remained the nation’s top ranked team for the fifth consecutive week. The women’s track & field team jumped up three spots to sixth in the week five poll.

Alex Knobloch ’10 was named the 2010 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Man of the Year. Recognized as the conference’s top male student-athlete, he was chosen through a voting process conducted by the CCIW Senior Woman Administrators and Faculty Athletics Representatives. There were five other nominees. Knobloch, a biology major who graduated with a 4.0 GPA, was a member of the travel squad as an alternate for North Central’s national championship-winning cross country team this past season.
