D-Term Verandah courses offer experiential learning

North Central College offers a record 17 Verandah experiences during D-Term, including four for first-year students only. Register on Merlin; space is limited.

During 2011 D-Term, North Central College is offering a record number of Verandah course offerings for students. These experiential learning opportunities connect faculty and students in informal environments outside the classroom around topics of interest.

Student Emily Rademaker named North Central College 2011 Lincoln Laureate

North Central College faculty chose senior Emily Rademaker as this year’s Lincoln Laureate for her excellence in academics and co-curricular involvement.

Nov. 11, 2011—Emily Rademaker of Cary, Ill., has been named North Central College’s 2011 Lincoln Laureate, an annual award that honors outstanding seniors at four-year degree-granting institutions in Illinois. North Central College faculty selected Rademaker as the College’s top senior for her excellence in curricular and co-curricular activities.

Governor Pat Quinn presented Rademaker with a medallion, certificate of achievement and a check for $500 on Nov. 6 at the House of Representatives in Springfield.

James Will named to North Central College’s Wall of Witness

North Central College is honoring James Will of Arlington Heights by adding his name to the College’s Wall of Witness.

This is the fifth of five weekly installments profiling individuals who will receive Alumni Awards & Recognition on Nov. 11 during North Central College’s Sesquicentennial Homecoming Celebration.

North Central College alumnus appointed assistant chief of staff to Aurora mayor

Rick Guzman, a 1999 alumnus of North Central College, has been named assistant chief of staff to Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner.

Rick Guzman, a 1999 alumnus of North Central College, has been named assistant chief of staff to Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner.

Guzman’s prior experience includes extensively working to serve low-income Aurora residents through such agencies as the Emmanuel House Community Development Corp., which he founded.

Senior Molly Link receives leadership award

Molly Link, a graduating senior and sociology major, was voted recipient of the Mark A. Reid Student Leadership Award by her senior classmates.

July 8, 2011—Molly Link, a graduating senior and sociology major from Batavia, Ill., was voted recipient of the Mark A. Reid Student Leadership Award by her senior classmates.

Each year, a deserving senior receives this award in honor of Mark Reid, a former student leader and president of North Central’s Student Association when he was killed in an auto accident in 1984.

Lou Corsino to give Last (First) Lecture

Seniors voted to invite Lou Corsino, professor of sociology, to present the CUAB-hosted Last Lecture at 7 p.m. Monday, May 16, in the Wentz. All are welcome.

The entire campus community is invited to hear his talk, titled “Lately, it appears to me …”
 
This year’s Last Lecture has been renamed First Lecture: Of the Next 150 Years, in honor of North Central’s Sesquicentennial Celebration, which kicks off during Cornerstone Week, May 16-21.

Stuart Allen '68

Stuart Allen retired as pastor of Prairie du Chien United Methodist in Wisconsin in June. In retirement he’ll serve as minister to seniors at Cargill United Methodist Church in Janesville, WI.

Mike Reeb '03

Mike Reeb released an album of original music titled “Breaking” on September 1. The songs are available on iTunes or for free at mikereeb.com. In addition to writing the songs, he played drums, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass, keyboard and tambourine for the album.
