The hundreds of faculty candidates who’ve visited campus the past 20 years typically ended their interviews in the office of R. Devadoss Pandian, vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty. In his fifth floor office of Old Main, they all learned about his passion for teaching—and the No. 1 qualification for working at North Central College.

“You have to teach to every student in the class and in a class of 30 or 35 students, that’s not a small thing,” says Pandian, describing the qualities of a great teacher.

Drew French, son of Mili and Robert French of Sugar Grove, was awarded the Outstanding Major in Art during Honors Day in May at North Central College.  

A senior, Drew majored in studio art and marketing with a minor in art history at North Central College. His name has regularly appeared on the Dean’s List of scholars. He is a graduate of Kaneland High School.

North Central College will showcase the work of four Chicago artists in a collaborative exhibit from June 19 through Aug. 9.

Titled “Pseudonym,” the free exhibit will be on display June 19 through Aug. 9 in North Central College’s Schoenherr Gallery at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. The featured artists—Michael William Foster, Jaime Foster, Barry Dwyer and Andy Christopoulos—will greet visitors and give a collaborative painting demonstration at a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 19.

Graduate student, alumnus selected for prestigious Prague Summer Program

Rebecca Samson ’12/M ’15 has been selected for a Prague Summer Program, a one-month creative-writing residency in the Czech Republic.

Rebecca Samson ’12/M ’15 has been selected for a prestigious Prague Summer Program, a one-month creative-writing residency in the Czech Republic.

Samson also was awarded one of a few competitive Vaclav Havel scholarships. Samson studied German as an undergraduate and is completing a Masters of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS) in the Writing, Editing and Publishing track.

She grew up in a Czech household and her passion for Czech history and culture was strengthened after a family trip to Prague in 2011.

Nearly 1,000 students, alumni, trustees, faculty and staff gathered with local and regional elected officials, business leaders and other dignitaries May 15 at a kickoff celebration in the College’s Residence Hall/Recreation Center.
