For the fourth time in five years, The Chronicle of Higher Education has named North Central College a “Great College To Work For.”

For the fourth time in five years, The Chronicle of Higher Education  has named North Central College a “Great College To Work For.”

North Central College is among just 86 institutions nationwide recognized in The Chronicle’s eighth annual report on The Academic Workplace. The recognition is based on results of surveys of more than 44,000 employees at 281 colleges and universities.

The 125,000-square-foot Science Center is being built on the west side of the 100 block of South Loomis Street, along the Sesquicentennial Walkway and south of Van Buren Avenue. The new facility was designed with additional classroom space to serve students of all academic disciplines.

The hundreds of faculty candidates who’ve visited campus the past 20 years typically ended their interviews in the office of R. Devadoss Pandian, vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty. In his fifth floor office of Old Main, they all learned about his passion for teaching—and the No. 1 qualification for working at North Central College.

“You have to teach to every student in the class and in a class of 30 or 35 students, that’s not a small thing,” says Pandian, describing the qualities of a great teacher.

The Illinois CPA Society has honored North Central College associate professor of accounting David Gray with its 2015 Outstanding Educator Award.

The award recognizes an Illinois educator at a community college, college or university who excels in leadership and teaching and who makes continuous and outstanding contributions to accounting education in the state. Gray accepted the award June 10.

2015 Honors Convocation award winners

North Central recognizes high-achieving students for academic and co-curricular excellence at the College’s 39th annual Honors Convocation.

On May 12, North Central College held its 39th annual Honors Convocation, an annual spring event that publicly celebrates student excellence in the academic and co-curricular life of the College. Some 55 students were introduced by faculty members, who recognized them for their academic achievements. In addition, a record 41 College Scholars, eight Richter Grant recipients and some 30 Scholar All-Americans were recognized for their successes.

North Central College welcomes Dr. David Pritchard as keynote speaker for the College’s 18th annual Rall Symposium for Undergraduate Research on May 12.

The public is invited to Pritchard’s talk at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, in the College’s Wentz Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. His keynote address kicks off a day of student oral and poster presentations held during the Rall Symposium, a forum for North Central College undergraduate students to present their independent scholarly research projects across all academic areas.
