Obtaining Audio Books

If an eligible student needs assistive technology to read a textbook, he/she will receive an "Audio Book" accommodation. There are two ways to fulfill this accommodation:

A student may utilize organizations that supply audio books such as Learning Ally ( or the publishers of the book. North Central College has an institutional membership to Learning Ally and can help a student access books. If a students needs an audio book, he/she should contact the Center for Student Success with the following information:

  • Title of the book
  • Author of the book
  • Edition number of the book
  • ISBN #
  • Name of publisher
  • Copy of book receipt

This information should be received by the Center for Student Success as soon as possible because the process takes approximately two weeks for a pre-existing audio book to be sent to North Central College. If the book is not available, it will take longer to have it produced. If the book is not available through Learning Ally, the publisher will be contacted directly to obtain an electronic text of the book. Screen reader software is available to read e-text books.
