North Central College, founded in 1861, is a selective, comprehensive liberal arts institution of 3,000 students, located in Naperville, a dynamic city of 144,000, 28 miles west of Chicago, along the Illinois research and development corridor and within walking distance of Naperville’s Metra commuter railway station. The successful candidate will bring an entrepreneurial spirit and exceptional ability to foster innovative and strategic program development to a newly restructured Office of Graduate and Continuing Studies. With integrated responsibilities for academic programs, enrollment management and marketing, the Dean will exercise leadership in shaping the role of adult learning within a thriving campus and business environment, with initial primary emphasis on growing the graduate area (currently master’s programs in business administration, education, international business administration, leadership studies, liberal studies, management information systems, and Web and Internet applications). The Dean will report directly to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty, the College’s chief academic officer, and serve on the vice president’s leadership groups as well as on the College’s curriculum and institutional budget committees.
The Dean will take the leading role in identifying and implementing new, mission-related graduate programs and enhancing existing programs in support of strategic planning goals, in exploring alternative delivery systems that will expand access to teaching and learning opportunities at North Central (e.g., online, hybrid, low residency), and in deepening and building partnerships with area corporations and not-for-profit institutions within a vibrant metropolitan area. In the area of Continuing Studies, the successful candidate will also be responsible for innovative and strategic administration of the undergraduate evening and summer school programs and the many synergies that shape adult learning for both graduate and undergraduate students.
Candidates should possess an earned doctorate, a record of academic accomplishment, significant experience in growing programs, and proven entrepreneurial and leadership qualities. Experience with graduate education or adult learning is expected. Candidates are especially invited who, in a shared governance model, can implement and communicate a vision for graduate education that balances strategies for enhancing the profile of graduate education with the core values of an undergraduate North Central College education. Salary is competitive and will be commensurate with the applicant’s qualifications.
