North Central had everything Abbey wanted in a college. A journalism program, international relations program, strong Spanish department, and study abroad opportunities. “And, on top of the financial aid I received through scholarships, North Central was the perfect place for me to study.”
Working on The Chronicle college newspaper, says Abbey, “was a perfect opportunity for hands-on experience in journalism. It’s completely student-run, so we were in charge of assigning stories, writing, editing, layout, advertising and distribution. It’s a lot to take on but also a lot of fun.”
She studied abroad in Costa Rica and England, was involved in Model United Nations and added a second major in global studies with a focus on international relations. Her advice to other students is “get to know your professors, be involved in campus activities and make lasting friendships.” After graduation, Abbey plans to join Americorps, helping develop tutoring programs for children of low-income families.
