This year’s Anti-Hate Week: a real-world exercise

Print Email Share

When North Central kicks off its annual Anti-Hate Week Oct. 25-29, a screening of the film The Anatomy of Hate: A Dialogue for Hope and discussion by director Mike Ramsdell will take place Monday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. in Meiley-Swallow Hall. Click here to preview the film.

Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) has informed the College it plans to protest the screening of the film, from 6:15 to 7 p.m. As a result, various staff, faculty and students have met to discuss the issue. Students have posted their call to a “loving” response on blackboard and Facebook. Check out the sites for information about planned activities Sunday and Monday, Oct. 24-25.

In a letter to the student body, students leading the response said, “All students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of North Central are invited to participate in a mass demonstration to share our simple message—We are North Central: We Love. This is not a counter-protest against the WBC; this is our vision of the world we want to live in … We will gather as one community on Monday and raise our voices on behalf of love, not hate.”
