The final week of the College’s Flamenco Festival features a photography exhibit that opens Monday, Feb. 22, at noon and runs through Friday, Feb. 26, at 3 p.m. in the first floor lobby at Kiekhofer Hall. Titled “Burbujas de amor” (Love Bubbles), the exhibit will showcase students’ interpretation of flamenco and a new era of flamenco enthusiasts embracing the gypsy ideal of individual self-expression. The photographs were taken by Jelena Sanchez, adjunct professor of Spanish, during this year’s Flamenco Festival and are displayed to inspire and engage the campus community in a cross-cultural discourse. Also, on Monday, Feb. 22, the Chicago-based flamenco group Las Guitarras de España will give a free performance and lecture in Meiley-Swallow Hall. The group performs Spanish guitar-influenced world music and dance and is influenced by Latin American and Middle Eastern styles, including American jazz.
