John Novak ’64 and Sheryl Fincher ’84 McGill are two of six individuals who will be inducted into North Central College's Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, Oct. 26, during the 2013 Homecoming Weekend.
Novak and the history of the wrestling program at North Central College are inextricably tied. He was present for the team’s resurgence in 1961. A transfer to North Central that year, he helped lead the Cardinals to a College Conference of Illinois (CCI) Championship and much more. Soon after graduation, he served as head coach, 1964-1966, and today continues his involvement as a volunteer coach, College Honorary Trustee and supporter. More
What started as the second sport for Sheryl Fincher ’84 McGill led to a first for the North Central College women’s track and field program; she wound up becoming the first Cardinal to earn multiple All-America certificates and established school records that stand to this day. Initially recruited by North Central’s basketball program, McGill used her jumping prowess to become one of the program’s all-time leading rebounders. More
Two more individuals—Alonzo Alexander ’93 and Erik Taylor ’98—will be featured in a future post in North Central Pride.
