Ryan Pier ’11, sports director for WONC-FM 89.1, received a nomination for Best Sportscaster (in a small market) from the Illinois Broadcasters Association (IBA) and is one of three vying for this Silver Dome Award. His competition includes sports reporters from two commercial stations: WKAN in Kankakee and WRMJ in Aledo.
Piers produced a sports story that aired on WONC featuring the basketball prowess of the Raridon family. He will attend the IBA awards ceremony June 16 in Normal, Ill., where he’ll learn the winner. This is a commercial radio competition, but allows college stations to participate.
