North Central’s second Summer Music Theatre production, Gilbert and Sullivan’s “H.M.S. Pinafore,” opens Thursday, July 29, for four weekend performances. Director Matt Boresi ’97, lecturer of theatre, brings a new twist to this classic hit, incorporating original dialog that had been dropped.
The story of “H.M.S.” takes place aboard a British naval vessel in the 1840s and is a love story between members of different social classes. Full of infectious tunes and well-constructed libretto, the play was wildly successful in the United States and Britain when it premiered in the late 19th century.
Actors from the community take the stage in Madden Theatre at 7:30 p.m. July 29, 30, 31 and 2 p.m. Aug. 1. Tickets are $15/adults and $10/students and senior citizens; call the North Central College Box Office at 630-637-SHOW (7469) or visit www.northcentralcollege.edu/showtix
. Jeordano Martinez, professor of music, gives musical direction to the show.
