Tonight, North Central College’s 16-voice Chamber Singers presents its spring concert “Metamorphosis” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, in Wentz Concert Hall. The concert includes a retrospective of the year’s Chamber Singers music, including Renaissance and contemporary works, pieces by Eric Whitacre and Imogen Heap, songs in English, Portuguese, Xhosa, Latin and French, and an original piece by Brian Mengler ’13.
Mengler, a music education major, says his composition, titled “Nature’s Green Is Gold,” is “one of the first pieces I wrote this year under the composition supervision of Jonathon Kirk (assistant professor of music). The text, written by Robert Frost, is rather short, but very meaningful and expressive, and I tried to capture that the best that I could.” Mengler will also conduct three pieces at the beginning of the concert.
Tickets are $5/adults and $3/students and senior citizens; call 630-637-7469 or stop by the box office.
