Gerald Gems, professor of health and physical education, has had a number of recent publications. His book titled
Understanding American Sports, which he co-authored with Gertrud Pfister of the University of Copenhagen, was published in July by Routledge. His chapter titled “Sport Historians, the City, and the New Social History” was published in
Routledge Companion to Sports History (London) by Steven Pope and John Nauright, eds. Also published is a book review of Gary Youmans’
The Onion Picker: Carmen Basilio and Boxing in the 1950s and a review of the Sports Museum of America in New York in the
Journal of Sport History (Fall 2008).
